Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: A New Era?

As we are now a few weeks on from the initial offering of Pokémon TCG’s Scarlet and Violet era, we thought that it would be a good time to review our thoughts on the changes this expansion has offered.

The prices of Booster Packs have been slightly increased; however, we can expect to find more holofoil cards in each pack. This sounds like a good change at first glance but I think it's neither here nor there really. Of course with the current economic climate, I understand the reason for the increase in the price… It seems like everything is going that way. However, adding more ‘holos’ to the pack will just dilute the experience a bit more. If you were lucky enough to open booster packs back in 2001, getting a base set holo card was a great feeling. Now unless you know that card is rare or a chase card for you it's just another card. I think it almost diminishes the experience of pulling a holo card.

At Inferno Cards, we have tried to keep the costs down as much as we can on the Scarlet and Violet Booster Boxes and the Scarlet and Violet Elite Trainer Boxes so that they are competitively priced with the bigger companies but also to ensure that there isn’t a huge knock on effect to you, the customer.

The classic yellow borders have been replaced with silver borders to fall in line with Pokemon cards from Japan. The silver borders have been a welcome addition to many fans and something that they have been asking for since the Japanese cards were released with their silver borders in 2005. I think the cards look awesome with the silver border and the artwork will clash a lot less than it did with the yellow but the yellow border will always have a special place in my heart as it has many good memories attached to it.

I am personally, really looking forward to this new era of Pokemon TCG. Positive changes are being made and I am sure that the hobby will continue to go from strength to strength.
